TV on the Internet

January 31st, 2012

Unless you’ve been hiding for the last couple of years, you’ll have noticed the increase of video online. I’m not just talking YouTube (although this is the biggest online video search engine) I’m talking about TV and movies online.

There are hundreds of companies that have online movies and TV. YouTube has a section dedicated to feature length films, Love Film and Netflix, which launched in the UK on the 9th January this year, stream TV programmes and films and major British channels like the BBC, ITV and channel 4 offers an online catch up service. Netflix and Love Film offer a monthly charge, while Love Film and YouTube have a pay-per-view option as well. More and more people are opting to watch online as opposed to live TV and Netflix was the single biggest driver of internet traffic in the US last year.

So the internet TV industry is accelerating. This year, Sky is launching an internet service for people who are not on pay schemes. It’s like their Sky Go online service, but better. They are offering their most popular programmes and movies online giving people more access and more flexibility as to what, where and when they watch things. All you need is a broadband connection.

But Sky isn’t the only one to be releasing a new service to people. A new company, YouView, is launching a new TV service. This is different to any of the others on the bases that it is not online as such, but a ‘box’, much like a Sky+ box or a freeview box, attached to your TV and not your PC. The package that YouView offers is for non-subscription channels, the ability to pause, rewind and record live TV and all in HD. Sounds just like Sky+ HD, except YouView offers a broadband service where you can access all the catch up channels from your TV. So you have your channels, recorded programmes and catch up programmes all in one place, meaning you won’t have to link your laptop to your TV ever again!

People prefer watching TV online because they can watch what they want, when they want. In the future we will see a rise in packages much like YouView and Sky. It does mean more competition, but then again competition has never been a bad thing for the consumer!

With this growth of major channels and easy accessible movies, means a growth of smaller online videos. People are choosing to watch a video over reading a blurb and the success rate for business with a video is higher than those without.

Video in Small Businesses

January 11th, 2012
Small businesses have a reputation for being adventurous and innovative in their marketing campaigns so that they can make their business grow. They usually do this because of a lack of funds or limited resources, but one affordable, creative and cutting edge approach is to make a video.

But we can’t afford that…

We don’t have time….

No one would be interested in my video….

Wrong!

Video is growing and fast becoming the biggest phenomenon on the Internet since social media sites like Facebook. In fact, even Facebook is jumping on the band wagon! Not only is it simple to upload a video, but they’ve created video calls and video apps.

So, how is this a good thing for your business?

Video means that you can create a connection in seconds. It also means that anyone who watches it will have a clear understanding of what you are about within minutes without having to read through pages and pages. Remember that we communicate through so much more than just what we say with things like body language, eye contact and voice tones – all of which are covered in a video.

But not only can you use it on your web-page, you can upload it to YouTube or send it in an email. Better yet, thanks to video on the move, people will be able to see your video on their phones wherever they are. And with social media being so massive now you can get free marketing by people sharing!

“A simple promotional video can make all the difference to a companies growth”

Have a look at some of our previous clients and the success they have had with their video.

LK hair, a hairdressers in Newbury, made a ‘how to’ video on applying hair extensions with Videre Video Productions. It was a good investment as they have gained clients directly from the video after only 600 views and increased their exposure no end covering all the costs .

Before making a music video with us, I, The Lion was an unsigned band but since their video was released they have been approached and signed to Raven Black Records.
Videre Video Productions also offer a video Personal Profile service. We filmed Pete Halewood’s exhibition of his HDR photography which has helped to promote him in this industry.
Videos for a small business are not only great for raising awareness of you or your products, but it also can be a tool for explaining your products. This Instant Flood Sandbags video not only promotes the bags but shows people how they are used and what they do.

Video On The Move

January 9th, 2012

With so many people having smartphones and constant access to the Internet, more and more videos are being watched on the move. When shopping, people are downloading adverts or product demonstrations before they buy. When traveling people are watching their favourite programmes and catching up on all the TV they have missed. Meeting friends turns into showing them a video on YouTube and video blogs are fast overtaking written ones.

There are hundreds and hundreds of video apps for the iPhone alone, not to mention Blackberry, Android and every other smartphone available! From an easy to use YouTube app to creating your own videos from scratch there is something for everyone and with such easy access to social media websites sharing is just as simple. Watching your friends home videos has never been easier.

However, home video is not the only thing that is storming.

With channels like 4oD and BBC iPlayer making apps for free, you can now watch your favorite programmes on your phone. So not only can you watch your friends videos and any YouTube clip you want, you can also catch up on the programmes you missed – when your on the train!

Since the Internet everything has become on demand and video is no exception. Downloading the latest American drama via iTunes is better than waiting 9 months for it to be on the TV and better yet, now all you have to do is sync your phone and you can watch it on your way to work. The consumer controls the when and where, not the television channel.

Video started to overtake TV a few years ago with more and more people choosing to watch programmes when they want. Easy to use things like Sky Plus briefly slowed this transition process down but with more and more laptops being connected to HD TV’s, built in recording devices are once again redundant. And now with videos being so easily available on phones, iPods, iPads etc. thanks to faster 3G and download speeds, television is going to take another knock. The future of video is online.

Marketing your Video

January 3rd, 2012

There is no point in making a video if no one watches it! Most videos are made to gain exposure for your company, or to help sell a product, so having the maximum amount of people watch your video is a definite bonus! But in order for this to happen, you need to be marketing.

Videre Video Productions help with the marketing by creating a YouTube account, optimising your videos and getting the ball rolling.

However, YouTube is only designed to help you get exposure of videos you’ve already made. If you want to get the most exposure possible and get the most views, you have to do a lot of ground work yourself, before you even start filming!

Step One: Think about your target audience
Thinking about what audience you want to attract is mandatory. If, for example, you were to make a product video for a stair lift you would be thinking about the kind of people that want one. They are usually older, or handicapped and looking for practical reasons as opposed to an impulse buy. This means you need to adjust the video content accordingly; no fast montages or flashing lights with heavy dance music! People looking at this product video will want to know how it works, how much it costs and hear testimonials from customers. So, in you’re video you want to show it working, maybe have the cost added as text and incorporate some positive customer feedback.

Step Two: Stick to one niche at a time
This follows directly from your audience and is similar as you want to attract the people who would be interested in your video. Concentrating your energies into one area will mean that you become top dog there and get the most out of it. This then makes it easier to move onto a new thing and remember, as your company grows so will your ability to do more!

Step Three: Video content

The people in the video
Once you have established your target audience, you can then work on how you’re video will look. If possible, get a well known ‘name’ to appear. This doesn’t have to be David Beckham, although it would be nice! If you’re in economics, ask a well known economist. Keep it relevant to your video content!

If you decide to have Talking Heads, think about who will be doing it. If you read the previous blog on Talking Heads then you will be able to see what qualities the person needs and make a more informed decision

You may feel mean saying to people that they can’t be in the film but you have to think about the finished product and the results you want to see from it. You want the most from your video so you need to make it the best you can.

Interactive videos
Making a video that involves the audience is a brilliant way of making sure people come back again and again. Videos can be interactive by making them into a competition, or asking questions in the duration. If you decide to make competitive videos, it will mean you have to do promotional work before the video is released on your website and social media pages etc. It’s a good way to make people come back again and again but remember to think about possible prizes and keeping the content relevant! Competitive videos work the best for overall company exposure and can lead to an increase in product sales.

Another way to make them interactive is to make the viewer engage with the content. All videos need to be engaging but sometimes they need an extra push. Choosing the right people, filming it with the right exposures, colour grading it, keeping the editing interesting, adding music etc. are all things that will keep your video engaging. However, if you feel like it needs an extra push, try posing questions in the video. Make the viewer think while they watch so they don’t switch off.

Step Four: Making the video
Doesn’t need a lot of explaining! You need to film the video but with all your pre-production planning this should be a case of just recording the content!

Step five: Uploading your videos
YouTube can be a daunting thing if you are unfamiliar with it and we have a series of previous blogs designed to help you:

Finding Success Through YouTube
Optimising Your YouTube Channel
Making Your YouTube Channel Visually Appealing
Upload Your Videos To YouTube & Optimising Them
Networking With YouTubers

Take a look through them for a better understanding of YouTube and how you can get the best from it.

There are other websites you can upload videos to, like Vimeo. It is also advisable to add any videos to your own websites as it makes it more accessible for your clients.

Step Six: Update regularly
People who upload videos regularly have a much higher following than people with one or two videos. Try and get a series and release them one at a time, week by week. Remember to promote the next video before you release it and engage with people. If you have a big run up to a video you are releasing have a forum where you will answer enquires about it!

Step Seven: Social media
Create social media pages and tell people about your videos! It is easy to Tweet about your up and coming videos and add links to both Twitter and Facebook once your video goes live. Remember to update it regularly and be prepared to interact with followers!

Making a video is one of the best ways to promote your business, whatever industry you are in and Videre Video Productions make all kinds of film! For more information about making a video for your company with us, contact Videre.

Why Make A Video For Your Business?

December 29th, 2011

The Internet is changing!

We’re saying goodbye to writing and hello to videos! The world wide web is advancing and viral video is the next big thing.

And here’s why…

Writing is great and it will always have a place, but it is two dimensional. People like the personality and human touches that come from video. We like to be able to see things and be shown how they work.

But why is it becoming so important for all types of business to have a video?

Can you remember when tweeting was something birds did? In the last five years the Internet has completely changed and expanded. You can now search for anything, anywhere, anytime.

All this is great – we can go shopping even when the shops are shut – but by having it so accessible, people have become lazy. We don’t want to read things, we want to be spoon fed! Thus the launch of video; we just click play.

But this is not the only reason why video is growing.

When you write you can add a lot of personality and flair, but it is restricted. Video on the other hand allows you to show off as much of yourself as you want. People hear you and they listen to what you say. But they also see you. This alone is THE biggest selling point; body language says more than words ever could. Humour, eye contact and expressions are small things but they make people likable and being liked will sell.

Better yet, video releases a whole new load of restrictions you didn’t know you had! You can be inventive with your editing or shooting; add music as a cover and act out scenes. You can create emotions in you audience and show them areas of work that would otherwise go unseen. Filming products in 10seconds when it would have taken 400 words to describe. And with a good animator you can create your own world and do whatever you want.

Video is limitless.

So from a business perspective video is great. People like to know who they are dealing with and feel like they know you/your company. Whether you do this through a talking head, documentary or animation doesn’t matter as all techniques of video work in different environments, it’s just choosing the one that is right for you. Videos also have a tendency to be spread around; if you make a good one then someone will tweet about it or share a link on Facebook. It’s free marketing!

Sometimes the hardest part about the video is deciding which one is best for your business! Luckily at Videre Video Productions we are knowledgeable in marketing and skilled at designing you a personal video so we will help you with all the steps.
